On this episode of YBZ The Podcast, we sit down with the crew behind the new podcast “For The Kulture” — Shekinah, DJ Scarff, and their cameraman Mo. We talk about how everybody met, how the podcast got started, the energy behind the show, and just kick back with some real conversation and laughs.
This episode is really just two podcasts linking up, vibing out, talking their talk, and having a good time.
Action is gonna be the longest motherfucking action. The longest intro ever. I thought he was trying to kill a mosquito. Nah man, cause I I need to find so when I'm editing, I need a sound point to start. So I'm gonna do that. I got you to delete everything. Oh yeah. That makes sense. So uh shit. My bad, because it's been a minute since I did this about two weeks. So I normally start off with a warm-up, uh huh. Basically asking dumbass questions. So I can fuck it up one time on camera. Shekinah.
SPEAKER_00Yes, Shekinah. Yeah, you did it. You did perfect.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_05How long you been here in Japan?
SPEAKER_00How long have I been here? Yeah. Almost four years now. Four years? Yeah, Juna be four years.
SPEAKER_05You enjoy it?
SPEAKER_00I love it. I love it.
SPEAKER_06Other than outside, outside, like during the day activities, what you what you be doing?
SPEAKER_00Um, other than outside, I go to cafes. I love coffee, so I'll be trying out different cafes around Okinawa.
SPEAKER_06Could you recommend one? If you had if you had the name one. Could you recommend one?
SPEAKER_00Um, so I have one that I really like, but I cannot think of the name of it right now. And I think it's in kanji. I I don't even think the name is in English for me to, but it's off of 20, I think that's 28, that that road that's right up here that highway. But I don't, I can't think of the name of it. But it's a lot of nice cafes out here.
SPEAKER_06Okay.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Okay. She kinda likes cafes, y'all.
SPEAKER_00I do. Okay.
SPEAKER_06But if you uh, so you're going to the cafe right now, you and your people, you alone, what you ordering right off rip.
SPEAKER_00Right off rip, I'm ordering a caramel latte. Depending on what kind of pastries and stuff they have, I might get a little croissant if they have it. You know, Japan a little different. But I my favorite dessert is cream brulee. So usually if they have a cream brulee or a teramassu.
SPEAKER_06Okay. Scarf what you get.
SPEAKER_04I might get little caramel macchiato, extra caramel. Okay. Okay. No whipped cream. Can't do that. Shouldn't be toe your stomach, though. Yeah, yeah. Stomach already gonna get tall because of coffee anyway. So I'm definitely on that caramel macchiato extra caramel.
SPEAKER_06I I had no idea that was gonna come out your mouth.
SPEAKER_00Need that. He was gonna say extra black coffee. Hell no.
SPEAKER_06Or or some other shit. No sugar, no cream. Nah, because you you added the whips and the and the and the extra, extra this and the extra that. So you kind of caught me off guard with that, man.
SPEAKER_04Nah, I got my favorite, you know what I'm saying? I gotta have that camera mac out. But that whipped cream gotta go. I don't like all that foamy shit at the time.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, I don't really do whipped cream either.
SPEAKER_05Like almond milk, regular milk.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. I mean, don't matter to me. I mean, it's all coming out. It's all coming out, man. It don't matter how it's coating my stomach. I don't care, bro. I don't believe.
SPEAKER_00I don't even try to substitute everything now and then, like a little almond milk, a little oatmeal, but I just don't like the taste. I don't. I'ma just have to, I'ma just have to thug it out.
SPEAKER_06You drink that much coffee that you can detect the taste of almond milk, almond milk from everything else.
SPEAKER_00From regular milk, yeah. Really? I drink coffee on a daily. Like I would love to have a coffee shop like one day, like a coffee lounge.
SPEAKER_05Oh shit. Yeah, damn.
SPEAKER_00I ain't know we were going there, but I want to be a connoisseur, like coffee beans from all over the world. Taste them all.
SPEAKER_06Shit, that's what's up. Shit, we'll say that for the pie goddamn. I guess we warmed up. Shit. They've been warmed up, and I'm the motherfucker that's out of practice.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, we built. Hey, look, we do this song without the pie. We be on the phone, but like, damn, we done gapping.
SPEAKER_06Like this. Okay, this is gonna be interesting. All right, let me do the thing real quick. Shit, how that motherfucker go. All right, ready?
SPEAKER_08This is your boy J.
SPEAKER_06This is YBZ the podcast. Like, share, and subscribe. Yo, fuck all that. Subscribe to the channel.
SPEAKER_05I like that everybody uh jumped on Facebook and whatnot and Instagram and hit uh hit like and they and they hit uh uh they they jumped onto the thing or whatever with the with the pages and whatnot.
SPEAKER_06But I need everybody to go over to the YouTube page and start subscribing to the channel. I need the the uh Instagram and uh Facebook to match the YouTube. So I need everybody that's uh that's uh fucking with us on them pages to slide on over and jump onto the uh YouTube page and hit that subscribe button, please. You feel me?
SPEAKER_05Anyway, shout out to the day ones, one time to the uh brand new people.
SPEAKER_06Hey, this one right here is special to me. I've been chasing this one for a minute.
SPEAKER_00Not chasing this one, I've been chasing this one for a minute.
SPEAKER_06That's why I work right. And so we're here talking to the cast members of the brand new podcast for the culture, culture with a K. You know what I'm saying? Culture. Oh, that's right. We're out here at Culture on Gate 2 Street out here in Okinawa, Japan. You feel me? Uh like I said, I've been chasing this one for a minute and trying to figure out, you know, trying to figure out the dates and this, that, and then a party came through, and then something else came through. It's a business, and I understand. You know what I'm saying? I'm not bitching. It's not me bitching, yeah. It's just me talking. I mean, just filler and whatnot. So, anywho, one time, like I said, for the culture podcast cast, one Shekinah, Shekinah, yes, and one DJ Scarf. Y'all know him, you know. I'm saying 8.5 or better.
SPEAKER_048.5 or better. That's why uh I originally dropped that line on your pod. Yeah, and that kind of blew up, and she don't like it. We had a whole conversation, so we can talk about that later. I'll talk about it later. She's not a fan of that 8.5 or better.
SPEAKER_06Can I put that on the books for this pod right here? Yeah, yeah, yeah. You can absolutely make it joke, because I want to I don't want to I don't want to have nothing that's off base. You feel me?
SPEAKER_04I wasn't gonna wear a t-shirt that said it on there, but she's like, that's not a good idea. Not a good idea. Yeah, don't be wearing that shirt. Don't be wearing that shirt.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I'll be like beauty is an eye to beholder. Everybody don't what you think is 8.5. Another person might not think it's an 8.5. Hey, somebody like it, it ain't me.
SPEAKER_06That's true. But you the one said, but but you're 8.5. You know what? I don't even want to start that.
SPEAKER_00Listen, that's kind of crazy. I gotta be an 8.5 of better than get a song request. No, matter of fact, you do. I done came up to this his man DJ Boo. Mind you, we cool, we like this, and had a song request twice and get my song played. And I'm like, am I not an 8.5? What the fuck is going on?
SPEAKER_06Wait a minute, so so put me in the top. So since that episode, have you had women come up to you and ask you that question?
SPEAKER_04Absolutely.
SPEAKER_06Am I good enough to get a request? They know if they get a request from you that you they look some type of way.
SPEAKER_04The only person who asked that question is her because she knows like there are certain standards to get a song played. So I had I had made a whole clip at an RB after dark I did.
SPEAKER_07Right.
SPEAKER_04So girl walks up and I'm in the middle of like transitioning to a new song and shit. Right. And she walks up on the stage, and the first thing I did, you know, look her up and down, like, can I help you? Like, like, what's going on? And she was like, hey, can you can you play a rod wave song? Mind you, I just played five rod wave songs in a row at RB after dark. That don't vibe. I was just playing them because it was kind of early, warming up the crowd, whatever.
SPEAKER_07Right.
SPEAKER_04So City, City standing right behind me.
SPEAKER_07Right.
SPEAKER_04City already gave me the look, like, all right, that's enough Rod Wave. Let's get this shit back to RB, right? So at that moment of me transitioning over to RB, she walks onto the stage and wants to hear a very specific Rod Wave song. And I'm just like, who are you? And what are you doing up here? Right. Of course, Lee ain't nowhere to be found. Security. Where's security? Lee, I need you to do your job, big dog. Come on now.
SPEAKER_06Anyway, you gotta do your job, Lee.
SPEAKER_04People just walking on the stage, right? She could have stabbed me, I wouldn't, I would have been dead.
SPEAKER_06You don't want to play Riot Wave?
SPEAKER_04Dead, right?
SPEAKER_06Exactly.
SPEAKER_04So I'm just like, I'm not gonna play Rod Wave. I literally just played five Rod Wave songs in a row. And she was like, Why not? I said, I just played five Rod Wave songs in a row.
SPEAKER_07Right.
SPEAKER_04So City, it's his event, so maybe she knows him. So I say, Hey City, do you know her?
SPEAKER_07Right.
SPEAKER_04He was like, Nope. And I was like, I'm not playing that song. And she walks off, and then City asks, he's he he gets ignorant. He was like, Did she meet the criteria? Was she an 8.5? I was like, absolutely not, big dog. So there's no way that song was getting played.
SPEAKER_06So you went through all of that, she wasn't even an 8.5.
SPEAKER_04Nah, I was trying to be nice. You know what I'm saying?
SPEAKER_06You gotta kind of move, you gotta kind of move it along.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I try, I try to be nice, man.
SPEAKER_06You got other things you're doing.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, exactly, man. But it didn't work out in that in that specific instance. But there has been times since then, right? Baddies. It's getting played. Absolutely. I was at uh who I was at?
SPEAKER_06I was at um wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. You just taking off with the 8.5. Yeah, yeah, we got it. I need you to come back here, man, so I can do the thing that I came to do. You know what I'm saying? We can talk about the outcome. Yeah, we'll that's a whole nother part.
SPEAKER_04That's that's a whole episode in the stuff. The 8.5.
SPEAKER_06The 8.5 or better. Hey, we that episode will come in soon. You know what I'm saying? He got a million of them. You feel me? For sure. Check me. So, like I said, we're here to talk about uh for the culture podcast. Let's start with shit. Uh Shekinah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, what's up?
SPEAKER_06Tell people as much or as little about yourself. Like, not necessarily you you ain't gotta start all the way at the beginning from I was born at or I was born by the rhythm. Exactly. You ain't gotta start that far back. Feel me? Check me. How y'all know each other? Let's start here.
SPEAKER_00Um, we know each other from we know each other through scoop.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_00Honcho, most people know him as yeah, one time for school. Yeah, yeah. Um, I think we originally met, I think they was having a block cookout right here in front of um uh the barbershop and uh the grill spot.
SPEAKER_04The grill spot, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and um that's how we originally kind of got introduced or saw each other in passing, and then from there we just saw each other at different moments, whether it was RB out of the dark or different events and stuff, and then found out he was a DJ, and we just correlated. Like I said, I was uh around the entertainment or the event space a lot, so yeah, it's how we kind of got intermingled with each other.
SPEAKER_06Okay, all right. And and how long ago was that?
SPEAKER_09I don't know.
SPEAKER_00It's probably been like what a year? It feels longer sometimes, though.
SPEAKER_06Like so y'all just got together what, like a year ago? So y'all like through mutual friends, is that like you said, through school or whatever, just talking in and out.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it had to be this time last year. Yeah, yeah. This time last year.
SPEAKER_06So who walked up to who about let's start a podcast?
SPEAKER_04Uh I went up, I went up to her, and it was a really unique moment that I'm not gonna really get into on why we decided to do it, but we just saw out of eye a specific.
SPEAKER_06Wait a minute, wait a minute. You said there's a unique reason why y'all decided to do it.
SPEAKER_04No, no, no. It's a unique reason on why I asked her. I saw we saw eye to eye on a very, well, not just one topic, but it just seemed like we saw out of eye on a lot of different topics, right? So uh one specific topic hit me on uh you know, it was about like racism and shit. So she said exactly what I was thinking. And when I saw what she, you know, and heard what she said, I was like, you know what? Because I always I've been wanting to start a podcast out here since I've been out here. Uh just didn't have the time, right? But I finally got found some time to do it. And I was like, who should I get to do this with me?
SPEAKER_09Right.
SPEAKER_04I asked a couple of people, didn't fall through and shit. So you know, it just popped in my head like me and Shekana talk shit like this all the time. So we might as well just do it on camera. And it was just like a natural, like, you know, team uh team job, you know, to to do together, right?
SPEAKER_06Y'all just mesh well together. Or you could felt like y'all would mesh well together.
SPEAKER_04Well, I know we did. I know I mean it was it was pretty it was pretty easy in my eyes to be like, let's just do this shit on camera. Like, you know, we might as well because I want to do a podcast, right? We see eye to eye, even though people be like, oh, opposites should do no different points of view should get.
SPEAKER_00I mean sometimes we don't see eye to eye, you know what I'm saying, which is which can be a good thing, but I feel like when it comes to like the more broader topics or like deeper conversations, we kind of have the same ideology. Right.
SPEAKER_04So the broad spectrum of it, we see out of eye more, but it's some minute stuff that we might you know see different on. But at the end of the day, we always end up doing full circle shit and coming back to the same side of the argument.
SPEAKER_06No, I kind of envy y'all, man, because you, like I said, I was saying earlier, the one thing that I wish, and I tried so many motherfucking times, and it just always just never fucking worked out, man. Oh my god, I tried so hard. But having a female on the show to have a female's perspective, right? You know what I'm saying? Especially if y'all like-minded or or somewhat like-minded individuals, make the comp make the conversation more natural. Yeah, you know what I mean? So, because you don't you don't sound like a weirdo when you're talking to each other, you know what I mean? So, because that's the one thing. So, the one thing when my bad, I don't mean to dispel all my shit because it's probably gonna be the only time I'm gonna talk to a female that's podcasting. Uh-huh. So I wanna. You know what I'm saying? Yeah, yeah. One of the things about having a female podcast, especially if you're somebody like you just had on the show one time, right? Y'all will be talking. I'll be talking to her. And be I don't know this person, so it's hard to kind of be myself when you don't know who the fuck you talking to. The wrong thing might trigger her, the wrong thing might, you know what I'm saying? Yeah, so the dynamic that y'all have, like, I envy the fuck out of that shit, man. So shout out to y'all, man. Move these shit out the way because DGI is not fucking sponsoring us. Anyway, uh matter of fact, you know who is sponsoring us? For real?
SPEAKER_04Nah, man, relax.
SPEAKER_06Are they for real? Because if they sponsor it, no, no, no, no.
SPEAKER_03No, no, but people know anybody who's seen me or no beat, yeah, know that they're gonna catch me. This Coca-Cola is gonna get a shout out every time. Coca-Cola on the colour.
SPEAKER_06Well, you she you keep doing it, they might go hit your, they might hit your ass up.
SPEAKER_03Hey, look, anybody got a plug with coke. Hit me up, tell them hey, I thought I'd go ahead and make a jingle.
SPEAKER_00You know what I'm saying?
SPEAKER_06Yeah, that shit, that might get it done though. That might get it done. Like the girl did with Dr. Pepper. Hell yeah, that might get it done.
SPEAKER_04I need that Coke sponsorship. Yeah, pause. You know, not on the sniffing.
SPEAKER_06So check me, man. I'm gonna cut your I'm gonna cut your uh promo off. No, cut it off.
SPEAKER_09Cut that shit.
SPEAKER_02Stop talking about coca.
SPEAKER_06Check me, man. How did uh so so for those who like I said, they want to tune in to your pod. Y'all, y'all doing a podcast for the culture. Yeah, brand new people. They brand new brand new podcast, right? Boom. I'm I'm a person. Hey, shit. I'm rude as fuck and I'm looking at his shit over there glowing like a motherfucker. I forgot to introduce the goddamn cameraman. Shit, my bad, man. One time for the cameraman, uh flare cameraman. Cameraman. Tell everybody uh your name and tell them a little bit about yourself.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, uh my name is Mo. Uh behind the camera, so you want to see my face. But uh I'm Colorado joined the military uh about a year and some change ago. Uh joined to be a combat photographer.
SPEAKER_06Oh you you you telling too much. We don't need the military background.
SPEAKER_01Hey, I don't know. Tell me about yourself. He likes to do it. Wait, wait, wait, wait.
SPEAKER_06Wait, wait, wait, wait. I mean, and and and and and and big up to the military and all that other good shit, man. But you you telling too much, man. Old tight, oh, old tight, man. Uh Colorado. How did you uh so how did you link with them for the show? Yeah, who got in contact with who first?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, so well Mo came to one of our uh group meetings, right? So we got a group of entertainment folks, DJs, promoters, and whatnot, and we linked, and he came he came to one of the meetings, and it was like, hey, I'm Mo, I'm trying to get some, you know, do some business. Like, y'all need a camera guy? We was like, hell yeah. So I met with him afterwards. I said, Look, man, I also do a pod. Like, I would love to have you come out. He came out to the last pod shoot. I mean, like you said, the intro was fired, you know, with the music in the background, the edits, everything. Right. So he also did an event when we was here for the phone party. Um edits for that was fire, right? Everybody liked that. So he's been doing a lot of good work since we met him a couple weeks ago.
SPEAKER_06Okay, so check me. So I'm now I'm gonna uh include you into the question that I'm asking the whole cast of Forticulture Pod. If I am fiddling through Apple podcast or whatever, and I run up and I hit your fucking first pod, or if I see your pod and I get ready to listen to y'all's first episode, give me a brief description of not the first episode of what the pod is about. So for those, you know I'm saying, when they when they get upon it, you can kind of give them a let them know what the show is about, you know what I'm saying? Like, yeah, I love it. If if you had to describe it, but I need everybody to like give a brief summary. So I I want a brief description from each one of y'all.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, brief description. So brief.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, chill out long-winded ass. I'm not cheating, so I ain't gonna have to say it. You know what I mean?
SPEAKER_06That's wild. Hey, everybody else wanna play, bro.
SPEAKER_02I'll be the first one to say make a long story short.
SPEAKER_00I mean, you want everybody else to make a long story short, but you make a short story long, nigga.
SPEAKER_02I mean, I'm gonna give my time back. I'm reclaiming my time. I'm reclaiming my time.
SPEAKER_06I'm glad you said it, man. I'm reclaiming my time. Yeah, I'm glad. Go ahead. Tell me a brief description, right?
SPEAKER_04The name of the podcast pretty much describes what we're trying to do. Okay. For the culture. And the culture could be, it's not just a race thing, right? It's not just uh, you know, a heritage thing. It's about all-encompassing the entertainment scene in Okinawa, right? We're gonna talk lifestyle, you know, relationships, uh, events, upcoming, and you know, anything in between as well. Anything that's a topic of discussion, lifestyle, current events, Okinawa nightlife is one of the things we like to key in, past and present events. So we just wanted to have something to talk about back and forth about the Okinawa culture that we live in when it comes to the nightlife entertainment scene.
SPEAKER_00So yeah. He pretty much summed it up. Uh um for the culture is literally for the culture, for the culture of Okinawa. Um, obviously, with us being foreigners and being visitors here in Okinawa, we just try to bring um a different perspective from the foreigner point of view of what Okinawa looks like for us, the nightlife looks like for us. Both of us are engaged in a lot of the events and entertainment of Okinawa, um, on the foreigner side, obviously. Um, so we just try to put that out there. Like you said, we we are also you know digging into doing you know more relationship segments with people that have been married for years and um just try to bring an overall positive um feel to the community.
SPEAKER_06Okay, that's what's up. You up. You don't especially you because you get to see it from over there. So what do you feel the the pod is about, man?
SPEAKER_01I feel like the podcast does a good job of trying to connect the community um of mainly like entertainers with the people they're entertaining. I feel like a lot of times you'd have kind of like a forced wall where the entertainers are doing the entertaining, but like you don't really get to know who they are, you don't get to know their story, you don't get to even know what like what they're thinking outside of their job. Right, right, right. And allows like they were kind of saying, like, allows us to blend with the Okinawan culture a lot more because we are foreigners, but at the same time they've welcomed us here. So why not try to bring you know the best of both worlds from the US to here? Um and yeah, just put the people on the idea that we may have different ideas, we may have different beliefs, but we're all here uh doing life together. So why not do life together uh through this podcast?
SPEAKER_06Like why not experience other cultures pretty much just uh giving y'all perspective about nightlife, about shit out here y'all experienced. I got it, I got it, I got it. Okay. Alright. So how long y'all been how long y'all been like y'all y'all filmed what, one, two episodes already? Because I seen y'all got one up already.
SPEAKER_04Uh so we did three technically, but the first one was just the pilot.
SPEAKER_06The pilot, okay. So y'all just Checking, you know, fall above the white.
SPEAKER_04Audio, visual, location, camera angles. Right. Well, that was a pretty it was still a decent episode. It was still a nice episode. Um, I haven't even posted the actual full first two. I just posted the clips, but I posted this last one that we did, I posted the full episode.
SPEAKER_07Right.
SPEAKER_04That's because we ain't had a cameraman that we got now. You know what I'm saying? Because I didn't edit the first two, so I just clipped a couple of like highlights and I ain't want to post the whole thing. Because I might, hey, I'm about to send those to you, by the way, Mo, so you can clip them first. Yeah, ain't no telling. What's in all? No, no, uh, them things is when I say raw, it's raw footage. So I ain't want to post those until I actually edited them and clipped them up. So I might have to throw that on my tab and shoot those over to Mo so he can clip those up for us so we can get those on the street too, though. But yeah, we've done three episodes. This will be our fourth. This will be our fourth, yeah. Okay. With the dual uh filming. So yeah. But yeah, four episodes in, you know, uh many more to go. We got a uh we got a couple people we looking to get on the on the show though as guests.
SPEAKER_06So who are who are you trying to shoot for?
SPEAKER_04So the uh what we uh like to call the first, uh guess the first family, uh the what we call Obamas. The first the the Obamas of Okinawa.
SPEAKER_00Not the Obamas.
SPEAKER_04The Obamas, the the Hamilton, the Hamiltons, yeah. So I'm not sure if you met them.
SPEAKER_06No, hit me, hit me, hit me.
SPEAKER_04So I mean, you've seen them before. I guarantee you've seen them before.
SPEAKER_00Miss Tricia, she's uh Delta president. Um I'm not sure if she's still the president, so I could be wrong on that. Um, but she's been Delta land her her entire life. Um, and then her husband is Cam. Baking. Uh yeah. So I'm I'm sure you've seen them around. They come out, they they're they participate, they participate in Oakie Knight like.
SPEAKER_06Time out, time out, time out, time out, time out, time out. Y'all just ducked over the whole entire question for me. I know y'all seen it on my face.
SPEAKER_02What's the what you mean? You asked who the Hamilton is. Who are they?
SPEAKER_06Who are they? Why would you name somebody that's because it's like Hamilton's well, that's their last name. That's their last name, but the name you call the nickname.
SPEAKER_00Oh, I he call them the Obamas. I I call them my favorite couple. Okay so I dubbed them as my favorite couple because you call them the Obama. Yeah. Why would you do that?
SPEAKER_04Because when you look at them and you see them and how they move, it's presidential.
SPEAKER_07Right.
SPEAKER_04Like they move as a couple that you would, you know, try to pattern your lifestyle after, like the Obamas, right? So I've probably seen them two before. Yeah, I'm sure you're gonna be. That might be over-exaggerating, but I like to say that because of the way they move and our respect that the community has for them. That's not just me. Right. Right. So if anybody has ever seen them out and about, you know, they they get the utmost respect. You know, you're on the red car perform because you know, the way they carry themselves, right? So I got that's the way I would envision a real president, I guess. So you sound service. I can't go to the next one.
SPEAKER_06You're saying the Okinawa Obamas.
SPEAKER_04Okinawa Obamas.
SPEAKER_06The Okinawa Obama. Yeah, well, shout out to the Obamas. Hey, yo, I don't mean no disrespect. That's a that's that's high praise.
SPEAKER_00You very I call them uncle and auntie, but you know, but they they they are like that. They very much so are. Um, I get a lot of uh a lot of feedback advice from them when it comes to like relationships and not even just relationships, but just being a person, like just living life, you know, um, and going through certain moments in my life. So shout definitely shout out to them.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, yeah. Okay, shit. That's what's up. I ain't know we was gonna have that conversation, but I'm glad we motherfucking did, though.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, but we want to have some more uh like a diverse group. We don't want to just have black people, basically, right? So plans to bring on other Japanese artists, entertainers, bloggers, vloggers, and stuff like that is definitely in the book. Okay.
SPEAKER_06Shit, that's what's up. All right, well, shit. Since y'all say y'all podcast is that shit, it's been a long time since I was just ever able to pod pod. So let's make the fucking pod real quick. Yeah, so I ain't asking no more questions. I'm asking questions, but I ain't asking no questions. Uh because I I want everybody to watch our show. You know what I'm saying? We appreciate that. Last couple of podcasts that I I I have everybody, the theme been the same, and that's one of the number one reasons why I want to do this episode is because I want to pay it fucking for it. You know what I'm saying? Yeah, y'all just start, and I've been doing it for a minute. Fuck it. Get y'all on, boom, let's do one. So everybody know when y'all jump on the scene, y'all already know. Here they go, right here. You know what I'm saying? Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_00So we definitely appreciate you know that's the opportunity.
SPEAKER_04You know, the schedule wasn't conducive the first couple trials, but we figured it out.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, yeah. Nah, and and everybody here been so uh motherfucking warm and and and hospitable and whatnot, and you know what I'm saying? So I appreciate it. So I'm I'm doing all that like I'm getting ready to just get dirty.
SPEAKER_00We gotta get into the real shit.
SPEAKER_06Nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah. So boom. You're from New York, right? He told me, he told me to hold up. And and I'm and and I want to hear your thoughts on it because I'm pretty sure you know about it. Boom. Let's talk about your awards thingy.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, so yeah, go ahead.
SPEAKER_06Let's talk about that, right? So, first of all, describe your awards thingy for me.
SPEAKER_00Not thinking. Okay, now uh Oscars. My bad, I didn't mean to say thingy. Okay, Oscars.
SPEAKER_04Right. So this is an event that's what I mean. I see females, right? Go ahead, go ahead. This is an event that we uh been thinking about for a while, right? And um, so all the entertainers, uh all the bar managers, owners, right, artists, just in general, whether you, you know, uh rapper, singer, uh, spoken word, any type of stage that you step on, we want to recognize that group of people out here.
SPEAKER_06Okay.
SPEAKER_00The bartenders, the bar managers. Everybody.
SPEAKER_06So you so you know about it.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Okay.
SPEAKER_04You think I'm gonna do something? Well, if I'm doing something, I called her and say, hey, we doing this.
SPEAKER_06Okay.
SPEAKER_04Even if I come up and I'm doing it, the first person I usually call is this motherfucker.
SPEAKER_06Is that how he described it? Is that how he how he what he just said, that how he did described it to you?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that we well, it's been in the talks as a group for a while. Like we're so for those that don't know, we're part of Coza Street group. Right. Right. And so the conversation started there with us wanting to be able to um give flowers to the DJs and of that nature. And then we kind of expanded it to being like, well, let's give flowers to everybody. Like, let's be able to give flowers to the bar owners, to the bartenders, to the people that do spoken word, all artists, you know, throughout that we can think of and find. So yeah, that's pretty much what it has become now. Now we've talked, like I said, the conversation started in the group, but it expanded in conversation with me and him of like figuring out what all do we want to do when it comes to this event.
SPEAKER_06So, all right, so here go the question that I was about to ask that I did ask before you got here. Uh-huh. Right. So it's the part with the podcast. Right. So I asked the question. Cause he asked me to be one of the, let me make sure I say this right. The presenters, right? Yeah. Okay, boom. So one, I appreciate it. I don't be outside like that. So for you to even ask me uh to be one of the presenters, again, high praise. I appreciate it. You know what I'm saying? So my question is these awards, right? Give me, give me one of the awards. Just tell me, give me one of the awards. Well, we can we can just start right here.
SPEAKER_04So it'll be uh under the we're gonna have a category, a major category, and then subcategories, right? So we can go best podcast. Podcast podcasts.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, who are the people that you have rounded up that have the authority to go that's the best podcast?
SPEAKER_04So I'm glad you asked that question. Yes. So we've already discussed that. It's not gonna be a single group or or of people or one specific entity, right? We're gonna have online vote, right?
SPEAKER_05Online vote.
SPEAKER_04It's gonna be voted by the people, right? We're gonna post QR codes, we're gonna post on you know all the Facebook and Instagram groups that we can find and allow people to vote. Now when I say we're gonna allow people to vote, it's gonna be a really, you know, as strict as we can make it voting system to where people can't vote multiple times a day with multiple emails, with multiple phones and stuff like that.
SPEAKER_06So one vote one time, that's it.
SPEAKER_04Well, I can't guarantee that, right? Because of the system, it's probably gonna be once a day. It's usually something like once a day per device or something like that. We're gonna do our best to mitigate how many times people can vote because there's always a loophole, right? So one voting app system may allow one device per day, right? Or one email per day, or one phone number per day. So we gotta do our best to really lock in on which application gives the the the least amount of voting opportunities per device, per email, per phone number, and then lock that down. So right, boom.
SPEAKER_06So just one, so boom, we we're trying to mitigate it so it don't gotta be so it won't be this one person that's voting for one podcast. Right, boom, right, right. So other so other than that, so that process is already started?
SPEAKER_04Yes, so we've already started the process.
SPEAKER_06We've been looking at some sites and we haven't seen locked out. Let's say I want to do it right now. Where is it?
SPEAKER_00Oh, we haven't opened up voting yet. Voting won't happen until closer to like a month before the actual event.
SPEAKER_06Ah okay.
SPEAKER_04So we're gonna have a window to where people can vote. We're gonna get the QR code posted, bam, bam, bam, and then we're gonna close it out probably like two weeks before the event. Because we want to actually have all the nominees already, right? Right. So we're gonna get the nominees, we'll start voting, and then once we finalize, like the top, let's say, I mean, we haven't come up with a number, let's say five, right? Top five uh nominees that were voting on. We'll have all those finalists identified, and then we'll post like these are the nominees for this particular uh category.
SPEAKER_06Okay, all right, cool. So that that sounds a little C now. That made me feel better. That made me feel better. Yeah, yeah. I'm like, who out because I'm trying to figure out who in the fuck is these group of people that y'all have assembled that says this, this, and this.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah, no, we're not making because you know, a lot of things can be a popularity contest, and we're not trying to make it about that. We're really trying to just make it fair across the board as much as we can. Yeah, we wouldn't even we'll operate like that.
SPEAKER_06All right. Well, I mean, I'm not saying that y'all were operating in in any other type way or whatever. It's just you the way he explained it kind of, you know, got to the root. I mean, you really got to the point, you feel me?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, you said I didn't do that earlier, so I had to make sure I did. You know what I'm saying?
SPEAKER_06You got to the point, right? So you kind of put, yeah, boom, so boom. So online voting, they're gonna be doing all that. I ain't mean to call it thingy. I'm glad she checked me on it. You feel me? I didn't mean to call it thingy, yeah. Yeah, okay. Okie oscars. Okie oscars. Okay, that's what's up. Y'all get on it, Okie Oscars.
SPEAKER_00Whenever you see anything for it, y'all, y'all click in and when I say we are making it a a big production, like the Oscars of Okinawa. It that's what it dressed to impress and all that shit. Dress to impress. It's gonna be a big production. Um, big production when you come in to when you leave out, like it is a production. All right, that's what's up.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, we need you to show up. Black tie, man.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and I feel like you would be great to present award. Um, I don't know. Hey, you know, come in talking uh talk your shit.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, we need we need you on a stay. Like shit.
SPEAKER_06What the shit flattery, flattery will get you everywhere. So at the same time, uh no, I'm intrigued when you ask me. And I and like I said, I appreciate this. I ain't no put on, you feel me? So I'm dead ass interested in it and whatnot. So shit. All right, uh I got one more topic, and then while I'm giving you this topic, I want y'all to give me a topic from y'all show, and we'll uh we'll wrap around that because I want to, you know, kind of get everybody, you know, used to y'all's personality. So when they tap in, it won't be no mystery. They you know they know exactly who they, you know, I'm saying, finna get. Okay. So here goes this other one. So y'all say y'all talk about culture in the nightlife, right?
SPEAKER_03Ready? Yep. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06So check me. It's a theme of going around, and I say, you know what, who better to ask than people that's already outside in it. Right? And I ain't trying to ruffle no feathers or nothing like that, and I ain't trying to get in nobody's business and shit like that. Nah, I ain't it ain't it ain't even like that. I'm just saying this. But if we go someplace, first of all, I'm gonna ask you a question about your podcast. Shit. Y'all say y'all gonna be the ones talking about like various parties and this, that, or whatever, whatever. Y'all gonna tell the truth?
SPEAKER_00What do you mean?
SPEAKER_06If the party suck, y'all, y'all talking about is it's finito for that party or um, so we try to give it's the truth, it's our truth, you know what I'm saying?
SPEAKER_00Obviously, from our perspective. Right. Um, and we try to be as non-biased about a about a party or an event as much as we can. Now we don't really go, and it's only if we attended it, right? Like we can't go based off of what everybody else was saying about it. Like if we attended the event, oh, how was it? Right, you know, I feel like it was good, but there were certain things that definitely could have been better.
SPEAKER_06So you will critique it from a yeah, we did that on the last episode. Right.
SPEAKER_00We definitely did that on the last episode. We have constructive criticism, but it's not like a bash, it won't be like uh damn, that shit was trash thing, da da da. We won't do no shit.
SPEAKER_06I ain't I ain't looking for that. I'm just asking We not finna do all that. I'm just asking.
SPEAKER_00It's honest perspective, it's honest, right?
SPEAKER_06So again, if if you went to said party and said party was ass, y'all would say said party ass. This party was ass. I was there.
SPEAKER_04I'm not saying the party was ass. I'm gonna say that was areas of improvement that could be seen to be done. You know what I'm saying? Like we're gonna sugarcoat a little bit because we still gotta maintain relationships out. You know what I'm saying?
SPEAKER_06Let's do one. Let's do one. Let's do one. Like do one or what? No, let's do one. Check it. So I'm just just talking. I'm just talking. I don't boom. Y'all finna start the show, right? Y'all finna y'all start the show, y'all went through y'all, whatever y'all go to, y'all get to this. Uh DJ Scarf said he just he just DJ'd this party. And uh it was somewhere in Tokyo. We ain't gonna put no names on it. And this ain't no real party, by the way. This ain't a real party. So this ain't a real party. And he just went to this party or whatever, and the party was not as advertised. And shit, both of y'all went. Let's make it fair. So both of y'all have perspective on it. The party was not as advertised. Let's let's just say uh not enough people showed up when they promised it was gonna be thousands, it wasn't even hundreds. You know what I'm saying? Party was ass, drinks was watered down. I'm painting a picture, you feel me? Yeah, so y'all went to another spot and y'all paid to get in. No, no, y'all paid to get into the spot, y'all went to review. So podcast just started, and hey y'all, man, how y'all doing, man? How was y'all weekend? Heard y'all went to a party, man. Let's talk about that party y'all went to. What happened? What's happening?
SPEAKER_04First thing I was gonna roll my eyes. I gotta brace myself to not say action, nothing.
SPEAKER_06Shit, my bad. Y'all won't respond to that. Okay, okay.
SPEAKER_00Okay, go ahead. What you gonna say? How much are we what you thought about it?
SPEAKER_06What happened, man? What's up with that party, bro? What happened?
SPEAKER_00Bruh.
SPEAKER_06Bruh.
SPEAKER_04Bruh, bruh. I'm just gonna be like, bruh, like, you know what I'm saying? Like, I don't know. Yeah. Maybe next time, a little bit more promotion, you know, more a little alcohol in the drinks instead of all that ice.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, there's a ton of ice.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, uh, maybe a bit more notification of the event. Is this that?
SPEAKER_06Is this that professional, what that thing you call it? Professional what?
SPEAKER_04It's criticism. Yeah, constructive criticism, that's all. Uh yeah, that's that's basically what I would say. I'm not gonna be like, man, that shit was trash. Why not? That's because I likely know the people. Okay, I likely know the people.
SPEAKER_06You're a DJ and you've been, and and and I must say, you've been at some top parties. Yeah. So you know what a top party look like. Absolutely. You know what I'm saying? Absolutely. And so you are you are you are you are certified to be the person to be like, hey, yo, this is ass. It is because you done seen what nice look like. So yeah, like I said, you go to this place, this shit fucked up, you on your pod. You ain't trying to encourage you to do it. If you and that's how you feel, that's how you feel. For sure, for sure. As somebody who done did it, you know what I'm saying?
SPEAKER_04I'm like, yeah, but that would go against what we initially stated the purpose of the podcast was. It wasn't to come out here and to be a hot take podcast and bash people. That wasn't our that's not gonna ever be.
SPEAKER_06I'm not saying that you gotta bash people, but you know, there is, you know what? Gosh darn it, try again. And that shit was fucking y'all niggas, is anybody trying in this motherfucker? Like, you know what I'm saying? Like there's a big difference between it, you know what I'm saying?
SPEAKER_04I will say this I will tell that to somebody in person, right? In a heartbeat with no filter. But when I'm talking to a pub in a public setting, I'm not gonna embarrass people, right? I'm not gonna make them out to be somebody who's incompetent and don't know what they're doing on in a public format.
SPEAKER_06I mean, I ain't saying call nobody, don't call nobody stupid, bro. Don't do that like that.
SPEAKER_04No, no, no, no, no, no. Not not incompetent as in stupid, but incompetent as in knowing how to organize and plan for an event. That type of incompetence, right? Because there's there's times where you can do everything right and planning an event and people just don't show up. That's right. There's nothing you can do about it. You literally, you can promote for months, you can put money into everything, the the best DJ, the best bartenders, the best location, and people just won't go, right? And it's not it's not your fault. Like it's so many different things.
SPEAKER_00We've seen it many times. So it's like, yeah, we'll come back and be like, all right, yeah. Back to the top of the code. It's certain things, yeah, it's certain things that could have definitely been better when we, you know, went to XYZ party, you know. Um we made it a party, you know what I'm saying? We enjoyed the company, we're gonna have fun regardless, right? But it definitely needed some tweaking and certain things that should have been better in the atmosphere, you know, to actually have the party going. Um, but like you said, it'll never be like, damn, that shit was trash. Even and like he said, if we most of the time we know the people that's promoting or throwing it, or even if we don't, right, if there's ever an opportunity to have that conversation, the conversation is gonna be had in person, you know what I'm saying? It'll never be like I'm gonna come on the mic and just talk shit. Like if I if I come if I come on the mic and I talk shit, I've already talked shit to you. You already know I'm about to come on to the shit. I've already told you.
SPEAKER_06That I can respect like a motherfucker, you know what I'm saying? So I've already told you to your face. So guess what? I'm gonna do it.
SPEAKER_00I'm gonna just go ahead and say what I said.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, so like we, yeah, yeah, we it it was meant for me to ask that question, goddamn. So look, y'all be outside, obviously, like I just said, more than me. So here's another question I'm gonna ask y'all. Uh and this, I just want to hear hear it about out here. Now, it's been something going on on the internet, and I know it's a large debate, left and right, depending on where you're from or whatever. A lot of people say clubbing is dead. How you feel about that statement when it pertains to Okinawa from what you've seen? Tap in, because I know you be out here taking pictures, man. Let me know.
SPEAKER_00I will say, I mean, obviously, I'm I'm I'm getting more mature. Birthday coming up. I'm the birthday. Anyway, um, I am getting more mature, so like the way I view the clubbing scene is a lot different than what I viewed it as in my 20s and earlier 2000s, you know. Um it's definitely not what it used to be, you know what I'm saying? You don't have a lot of parties where people actually turn up or have a good time and they're dancing the majority of the night, you know. A lot of the times people may dance here and there, and then the rest of the time they're just mingling, conversing. It turns into like a lounge vibe, per se. Um, so unless you're around a younger group of people that have the energy to continue to keep moving and partying or whatever, I do feel like it's certain moments like RB out the dark, you know. It's very seldom moments in RB Out the Dark where nobody's moving.
SPEAKER_06I got you, I got you.
SPEAKER_00You know what I'm saying? Majority of that night, people are dancing, it's a hot box. That's why I don't really like to go too often, but I I I fuck with it. I fuck with it when I do go. But you know, it's a lot happening. A lot of people are dancing. It is clubbing. Um, even when you go down to places like Epica and Naha, I feel like majority of the time when I look out in aircraft. Their party and their dancing. Like, um, so I guess it just kind of depends on um what's what's happening. I don't I don't feel like every club is the same or offers the same energy or vibe for people to have club experience.
SPEAKER_06How how you feel about that? My bad. I don't mean to cut you off, but I'm trying to get her to talk more.
SPEAKER_02Oh, I didn't even talk about it. I didn't even say that.
SPEAKER_06When we look at you and I see you getting rid of it. Oh, no, I'm like, huh? Yeah, right, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Exactly. No. So look, so listen, the diversity out here on gate two, how do you feel about that? The diversity of clubs, or it is it enough out here to pique your interest? Like, do you wish it was more, or is it what you're accustomed to? Like, you know what I'm saying? Like, how you feel about the diversity out here? Like, is there a lot of choices?
SPEAKER_00It is a lot of choices, but um, I think as far as gate two street is concerned, it's is I feel like everybody finds their own crowd out here. You know what I'm saying? Like, of course, you may be Latino and you might not you might stop in culture, but you're gonna head down the street to El Barrio, or you may be Japanese, so you're gonna go more so on the back street. So gate to find those spots. And um, I think for me, um, like I said, as I'm getting older, now blue cafe be jumping. They be jumping. I know Rudy be down there doing his thing. I done got to a point where I won't walk down there because it's a jungle. Like it's literally, it's literally a jungle. They are turned up, and that's cool. That's fair. Right. So you kind of find where you feel like you you should stand or where you should be. So I do like the diversity, the options that they are here. Um, you know, obviously, every bar or every club out here isn't gonna get as much attention as the next one, just depending on various things. People get used to coming to certain places, you know, or people there they may not have a DJ there, or the drinks might not be as good, or the drinks too expensive at that place, you know what I'm saying? So I do like the fact that you get to pick and choose, and sometimes I'll duck off and go to somewhere else where ain't nobody really if I just want to chill out, you know. But it's still nice, the music's still good, the bartender's still doing what she needs to do, might pour me up a double when I ordered a single, you know.
SPEAKER_06Already, already. Yeah, someplace you'd have been often, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00So I do, I do like the fact you could kind of pick and choose what what vibe you want to be on.
SPEAKER_06Okay, all right. It's good to hear uh again, like I said, I'll be outside, but it could it's good to hear from you that Okinawa still presents that uh I can go here, I can go there, I can do it. So hearing it from you. You know what I'm saying? That I can be where I want to be at all the time. Yeah. So that's cool. Nightlife, dead. You you the DJ. Now we we back to you. Go ahead, wind up.
SPEAKER_04No, Nightlife is not dead by a long shot. Um I've seen these opinions more so from the state side, promoters and DJs, as far as more specifically, when people go out to events, there is no dance floor anymore because promoters and club owners want to set up.
SPEAKER_06Let me ask you a question. When's the last time you been to the States?
SPEAKER_04A year ago. I was in the States a year ago.
SPEAKER_06And did you out when you was in the in the States? Yeah, I went out. Can you compare there to here?
SPEAKER_04No, there's no there's no comparison. First off, most places well, more places than not are charging a cover fee. Right? Out here, the great majority of places that we frequent, especially on Gate Two, of course, there is no fee. There's no cover charge. Okay. That's the first thing. All right, let's throw all that out the window.
SPEAKER_06Throw that out the the experience.
SPEAKER_04The experience in the States is there's a lack of communication and intermingling between people when you go out. There's always a defense up anytime you see anybody. Dudes are standing there cuffed up, you know. The the women, you know, no disrespect. I feel disrespected already. Right? The women don't even think about approaching them. Okay, yeah. Don't even think about it. Because the first response is I got a man, I don't like you, like how much money you made, what kind of car you're driving outside. And it's like, why would I even waste my time?
SPEAKER_07Right.
SPEAKER_04You know, here people are a lot more friendly, and it's likely because we understand here that the Americans, especially when the Americans are out and about, we got to look out for each other. There's more of a family community vibe when you're outside here than in the States. In the States, it's every man for themselves. Like, ain't nobody shooting out here. You know, everything feels a lot safer, a lot more family-oriented out here. So it makes you want to go out more.
SPEAKER_07Right.
SPEAKER_04You ain't got to pay $40 to park, you ain't got to pay $35 to get in, and you ain't got to pay $20 for a double shot of Hennessy, right?
SPEAKER_07Right.
SPEAKER_04It's a lot more family-oriented, and it's a lot cheaper, right?
SPEAKER_07Right.
SPEAKER_04You can go have a great time for $50 out here. You can have a time of your life in Okinawa for $50.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Right. And if you're a woman, you're not even buying no drinks, right? You got Simps that's gonna do that for you. You ain't gotta pay for none. You know what I mean?
SPEAKER_00Simpsons is crazy. How many times you're gonna do it? Mighty can't just be a gentleman. Might he can't just be like, let me get you.
SPEAKER_04How many times have you had to pay for a drink in the last month?
unknownA few.
SPEAKER_00Stop playing. Stop a little bit. Stop. A few. I'm always taking I'ma always take my wallet to the to the Bardona, Eddie. I'ma always take my wallet to the Barbadona. Is that I'm pay for mine.
SPEAKER_04Now I'ma tell the truth. Eddie ain't making her pay for no training.
SPEAKER_00I'm gonna probably only pay for one.
SPEAKER_07Right.
SPEAKER_06But you can't hate on the lady.
SPEAKER_04Low key, low key, this is this is what I peep. This is what I peep today. Me and Eddie was talking before Shekinah walked in. Me and Eddie was talking. He's talking with his regular voice and shit. Shekinah walk in. Hey baby girl, what's up? How you doing today, Miss Shekinah?
SPEAKER_02I was like, what the fuck? That voice comes from? I was like, what the fuck? I never heard Eddie talking that monotone type voice before.
SPEAKER_06Not miss.
SPEAKER_02I was just like, what the fuck? I was like, but anyway.
SPEAKER_04But that's the that's the difference in my opinion, right? Right. The vibe is completely different. It's more welcoming and inviting to be outside here than it is in the States. I got you. I got you. I got you.
SPEAKER_06So that opening statement I that that started this whole conversation. Uh is the club scene uh dead or dying or whatever. That wouldn't you you it would be more so for the states than over here.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, absolutely. Okay, I agree. I mean, of course, it always the variables are the variables, but if I had to choose between going out home and going out here, it's gonna be here.
SPEAKER_06It's gonna be here. It's more enjoyable to go out here. Absolutely.
SPEAKER_04It's way better.
SPEAKER_06Right? Yeah, it's it you uh uh again, you you taking pictures out here, club scene, dead, going, dying, dead out here. How do you feel about it? The state, man.
SPEAKER_01Are you like wanting a comparison from the states?
SPEAKER_06I mean, I mean, it have do you have a comparison from the states?
SPEAKER_01I can have a comparison from just going in the states. Like uh they hit the nail on the head. I mean, my first time coming out here to the clubs, I was like, holy shoot, I've never seen so many people walking around uh on a busy street. Gate two is insane every like every weekend. Yeah it's not like a weekend where like I'm like, oh man, gate two's dead this weekend. Right. Every single Friday, Saturday night, people are out here having fun, goofing off. You go down to Naha, same thing. You just see like droves of people. And I sometimes wonder where they come from, because like they just come out of the woodworks. And so I feel like the club scene here is a lot busier, it's a lot more exciting to be around because you just wanna you want to find where the vibes are at. Right. Um, and every club has its own niches that I like. Right. And so I like the clubbing scene out here, and from like the photography side of things, this like you never have to worry about finding good content. You're always gonna find people having fun, you're always gonna find people shaking ass, you're always gonna have people taking drinks and goofing off with each other, and like it's just a good scene of people wanting to have fun and let loose after like a long worst.
SPEAKER_00Make it home safe.
SPEAKER_01And in the States, like, if you if I brought a camera into like a club, it's already like kind of awkward when you're just standing there and you're like, okay, if I don't know anybody here, I'm not going club by myself. Yeah. Yeah. But like then you bring a camera in there, and out here they're like, I don't care if they're fucking filming me, I'm having a good time. You go out there and they're gonna be like, Well, where's this getting posted to? Who's gonna see it? Well, I I don't want you filming me. Right. And like it automatically just becomes like this negative connotation, like.
SPEAKER_06So that does happen to you out there. So you boom, you you boom, you show up to the club, you pull a camera on it, they'd be like, Hey yo.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, like you, you, you know immediately, and usually like a bartender is gonna come over and be like, Yeah, don't film me either. Like, don't don't film our bar, don't, don't look at me. Like it's an automatic thing. Because even when you're just taking photos on the street, very different vibe out here. Out here, everyone's like, Wait, wait, get a picture of me, get a picture of me. And it's some random fool you just met on the street. Yeah, but in states, it's like, yeah, I'm gonna walk across the street, duck down an alleyway just so I make sure I'm not in your shot. Right. So it's just very different out here. It's very open, it's very relaxed. Um, yeah, people people know how to let loose out here and have fun to get along with each other a lot better.
SPEAKER_06All right. Well, that that went a different direction than where I wanted it to go, but it you painted up, you pa you painted a good picture. Again, y'all, how old are you?
SPEAKER_0125.
SPEAKER_0625. Boom. See, perfect, boom. How old are you?
SPEAKER_00I'll be 33 in what, a week? A two weeks.
SPEAKER_0633? Yeah. You you said you was you the old, you the old dude on the show. You 40. He's 75. You 75. Oh, damn. What the fuck?
SPEAKER_00At least he acts like he is still out here turning them tape.
SPEAKER_06I'm not even, I'm not even finna. Boom. So boom. Like I said, 25, 33. Y'all the people that I want to hear that from. You know what I'm saying? I all this shit sounds very familiar from you know my time when I used to come out here. All that shit y'all saying, you were saying, going to different spots. I ain't gotta be over here to do this. I can go over here and go chill somewhere else. I can hit it over here. You, everybody happy, vibrant. I pull the camera out. Yo, shoot me, bro. You know what I'm saying? Like, that's the shit that I like to hear because that means Okinawa hasn't changed as much as a lot of people think. You know what I'm saying?
SPEAKER_00So it's and it's all in the perspective, you know what I'm saying? Depending on where you, and especially like, I'm sorry, not to cut you off, but like even thinking about like my experiences partying in Naha, like that's a good time. Like Gate 2 is is is fun, but partying in Naha with the locals and people that's just visiting uh Okinawa is another experience where it's just like, oh, y'all are fun. Like, they'll you'll be them found through some friends that you ain't know y'all was about to be friends, and y'all outside till five o'clock in the morning.
SPEAKER_06Can I ask you a question, man? Just you out in the street, someplace you ain't supposed to be at, and I'm just saying it as I out of the norm. You know what I'm saying? Japanese dudes flirt with you?
SPEAKER_00No. No, no, I mean I've had a few that'll like make comments when they're drunk or something like that. Yeah, but like, not on no, no. Okay, not on the question, just a question. But I but the crazy thing is I get more compliments from Japanese women than I do from women, black women, or people, yeah, Americans. I can definitely see that. I don't know if they be thinking I'm a celebrity or what, but but I take it.
SPEAKER_06I can definitely I can definitely see that. So, all right, I got one more statement and then we can close it out. And I'm gonna make this statement, and I just want to hear how how y'all feel about the statement, and we can wrap it up. Finish this shit. So check it. So I was talking to somebody the other day, and they were talking about out here, how out here is rand. Right? So they were saying, and again, this ain't this ain't come from me, this came from an another person I was talking to. The person not important is what he said that that I found to be kind of like because he wasn't black. So let me just start by saying that. Okay, he wasn't black, so can't folk, all scan folk, and you can't folk. He wasn't black, right? But for him to say it and for it to hit, it kind of hit me in the heart a little bit when he said it, not in a bad way, as in I see that. And that's just my opinion. I want to hear y'all's opinion. Again, y'all be outside. You just gave me y'all descriptions of outside. So check it. He goes, the black people out here have so and I this part I do believe, have so much power out here in Okinawa or out here in Japan, period. Right? But he says the problem is they don't use it as as as much as they probably should when it comes to certain things or whatever. And he said, Nothing made you sit up in your seat. And he said a couple of the and he said a couple of the problems is is is just that they just they it's like they don't know, or he's like, I don't understand. He's like, because you you see all the other like little side jones or whatever, they get together and boom, they own the whole block or they own half of the block or whatever. That statement hit home to me a little bit, but I'm like, but I see of course I believe in us. You know what I'm saying? And everything that everything we do out here shit do be good. You know what I'm saying? The the the RB after darks, the brunches, you feel me? That shit right there, that that shit's fucking genius. You know what I'm saying? Especially bringing it over here to people who, you know, because I'm figuring it's it's it's popping in the states, right? So to bring it over here would be out fucking standard. You feel me? That statement, hearing it coming from somebody on the outside of the outside of your race, to hear them say that. How do you feel about that statement? This is what somebody thinks of us as a race out here party, money, uh businesses, da da da. That's how they feel about us as a race out here.
SPEAKER_04I feel the same way. I feel I feel the exact same way. I had this conversation at least once a week. I had it on the last episode of the podcast. I had it today with somebody. Same conversation, right? Our community is so divided over the dumbest shit that's so divided over the dumbest shit, it pisses me off. We literally had a topic of discussion about how we have events for us, right, on the same day with the same theme at the same time. And that statement that dude made is so incredibly accurate because the power that he's talking about that we should be wielding, we're not, because it's power in numbers. There's so many of us in this community, the entertainment community, that if we took the time needed to organize, plan, and execute an event, and we only supported each other for each other's events instead of trying to compete with each other for events.
SPEAKER_07Right.
SPEAKER_04The power of our dollar slash yen for let's say we all decided we're gonna come to culture on Saturday. There's gonna be one event where all the promoters, all the DJs, all the entertainment people said we are going to culture on Saturday. Yeah, that's where we're going. Yeah, all the flyers, all the promotion is for culture this Saturday. You know how many motherfuckers will be in here? They would be outside.
SPEAKER_00It would be it wouldn't even be able, they wouldn't even be able to get in.
SPEAKER_04It would be a thousand people here if we all work together and said, This is where we're putting our money at this weekend, y'all. We're not going to Legion, we not going to Naha, we're going to culture this weekend.
SPEAKER_07Right, right.
SPEAKER_04That's the type of power that that dude was talking about. I'm not sure if that's what he meant, but that's how I'm seeing it. But the problem is everybody wants to scrape every cent off the top. So instead of seeing an event and saying, hey, this weekend I'm not gonna throw mine, I'm gonna go support chores and I'm gonna get my product to come out of the house. No, I'm gonna put an event on two and see how many people I can get to mine and say how many people I had in mine versus yours. Yeah, and then we split the whole community up six, seven different ways.
SPEAKER_06Especially if you mess around and you're doing the same freaking same event, same time, yeah, same thing. That's kind of lame, bro.
SPEAKER_00That literally happened like two weekends ago. The most idiotic shit I've ever seen. Everybody had all of the events. Everybody had a 2000s, 2016, early 2000s party in some way, shape, or form. Right. They might have called it something different, but it was all the same thing.
SPEAKER_04I was like, how did y'all not get together and discuss this?
SPEAKER_06Like, yeah, I didn't understand. And and one person could have got all that money. All they could have all been in the same spot if they were all in the same same strategy. What not only am I going to promote your party at your party, my flyer will be at your party so they can come to my shit.
SPEAKER_04But you want to know the funny thing, big dog? They all ended up at the same place at the end of the night. They all ended up at the same place.
SPEAKER_07Where is that here?
SPEAKER_04Right here in culture at one o'clock. I saw all of them. All the promoters, all the DJs that were, they were here. Including me. I was in this motherfucker too.
SPEAKER_03I was too. Standing by the standing in the corner. Oh not in them then.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, but I I like this. I ain't gonna hold you, man, if you don't mind. We talk about culture real quick, man. I like this, I like this little area though.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, man. Shout out Eddie, man. Eddie, Eddie, uh Eddie made it to where Eddie the GOAT he established a precedent of an owner who can build an establishment off of his credibility in his name instead of the location of his bar.
SPEAKER_07Right.
SPEAKER_04He knew when he bought this bar, it's off the beaten path of the main strip of gate two. But you know what? This place would get packed just as much as any other location on gate two because of the strength of how he treats people and his character. Right? Those things, along with how he, you know, does his business, right? The drinks are not expensive. He's got food, right? He has the selfie camera on the mirror for the girl. He entertains, he hires the best DJs, me, right? So yeah, he does. He does the things that people in other businesses fail to realize will maintain those customers instead of onesies, twosies, they come one time and you overcharge them, and you don't have the amenities, and you treat people like shit, and then they never come back. Eddie is building something for longevity, okay, not the one-hitter quitter. So that's why he's able to build and establish and maintain off the beaten path.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, no, I'm not dead ass. Like this, this, because I that's all I was gonna say. Like this this little section right here or whatever, yeah, is what attracted attracted me to here. I didn't know shit upon shit about shit. You feel me?
SPEAKER_04And Eddie should be charging these motherfuckers commission because the crowd Eddie brings to this street, we go right across the street. They making money at the fuck. I'm pretty sure they do. I'm pretty sure they do. They making money off. I'm pretty sure they do. I know for a fact they do.
SPEAKER_06This little area right here is real tight. And if you you go like shoot down like the naha or whatever, they got little areas just like this. Yeah, little shots. And this where the best shit be at all the time. You feel me? So for this club to be here. Club bar, what we call it.
SPEAKER_04What you bar?
SPEAKER_00Culture bar lounge. Culture bar.
SPEAKER_04He said bar.
SPEAKER_06Culture bar? Okay, all right. So hey, my bad, because I ain't trying to get nobody fucked up.
SPEAKER_09Culture bar.
SPEAKER_06You feel me? Culture bar, y'all. So yeah, so boom. This area is real tight. So, you know what I'm saying? So I'm glad y'all got somebody that uh believe in y'all work and come let y'all do this type shit. You feel me? Uh y'all got anything y'all want to ask me or any questions about anything before we close it out? Because I'm about to just let y'all do y'all shout outs and we call it.
SPEAKER_04Man, you coming to the Oki Oscars, man? Right, because you ain't never answered that. You were just like, Thank you for thank you for asking me for that.
SPEAKER_02You didn't give us no asking.
SPEAKER_06Thank you for clarifying it for me more better than that. And I do feel better about what y'all said about it, so yeah, I will participate.
SPEAKER_00Okay, okay, yeah, we're gonna go.
SPEAKER_04The motherfuckers ain't coming. So you gotta show up now, dog. You gotta show up.
SPEAKER_06I don't know.
SPEAKER_04You got come on, big dog. You can't shop with a t-shirt with a stuff.
SPEAKER_06I think I have to do that. That's probably all you're gonna get.
SPEAKER_00Listen, you commit you commit your style in a way where it's dressed up. Come on, you know what I'm saying? But still, your eye. I can see it. I can see the vibe full much.
SPEAKER_06You got full function. I can see the vibe. I can see the vibe. I can see it. I see the video.
SPEAKER_02I can see the DC it's like wale vibe things put together. You know what I'm saying?
SPEAKER_06So late. With a copy on this shit. Please keep reminding me about that shit. Oh, yeah, for sure. You know that's happening. I do want to attend because I want to see uh I want to see what it turned out, what the turnout looked like.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yeah. I'm gonna be in your news.
SPEAKER_06Alright, man. I appreciate y'all letting me interview y'all. I hope y'all enjoyed the process. I didn't know. Definitely. Uh one, like I said, I wanted to pay it forward. Two, I think it was mad important for me because it's been a long time, not only since I had a female on camera or interviewed a female. Well, wait, let me tell that back. No. Uh shout out to uh being a star. Uh it's important that I uh try to interview as many black women as I can. For one, your experience out here is mad important for people to hear that. Yeah. You know what I'm saying?
SPEAKER_00For sure.
SPEAKER_06I want more black women to hear the shit other black women than out here and see shit. Yeah, you feel me? Yeah, well, I want to be able to do that.
SPEAKER_00I definitely appreciate the opportunity. Like we definitely gotta do this again.

SPEAKER_02Yeah, she is the host.

SPEAKER_06So all right, man. Like I said, I appreciate it. Thank you very much. We appreciate you. Uh check me out, man. Y'all see the cameras or whatever, wherever camera that's looking at you, that one in the middle and that one on the side. Shout out whoever you need to shout out.
SPEAKER_00Who are you gonna shout out? Ooh, I wanna, you know, shout out to God, first and foremost. Uh no, for real. Uh shout out to my family, shout out to Cozen Street Group. Okay. Shout out to uh DJ Red, DJ Scarf, all the DJs. Um, shout out the school, uh, people that put me on in this space, people that have encouraged me, people that, you know, the people that's been there for me. Like I feel like, and this is going into a whole nother topic, but I feel like coming to Okinawa has allowed me to develop a friend group and a uh a group of people that I've never experienced before in my life, especially coming into my adulthood. Like, I have literally found people here that are rotted eyes. They don't just say it like they are really about that shit. So I love you all. I know y'all gonna be watching, y'all know who y'all are. So that's all I have.
